"Alright here are the rules. Number 1: Don't talk to anyone. Number 2: Don't look anyone directly in the eyes. Number 3: If anyone asks you if you want a 'red holder' just say no…"

"But I thought that I wasn't supposed to talk to anyone," Sam said mockingly.

"That's the only time you can talk." They were about to arrive in a vampire town called Trevous, and Miriam was trying to tell Sam how to survive the night without being bitten or becoming a blood donor. "Just follow these rules and you should be fine. Just make sure that you don't leave me or Darius."

"Yes Mum," Sam said mockingly again.

"You can joke all you want, but vampires aren't like humans. When they want something they usually just take it, so you have to be careful."

"Alright I get it, but why aren't you telling Darius all this stuff?"

"Because I've been around vampires before. I know how to handle them," Darius said.

"What do you mean?"

"Vampires don't respond well to threats or compliments. You have to know how to take a neutral tone in the way you say things."

"I can do that."

"No you can't. That's why you need to keep your mouth shut. They could eat you alive if you're not careful," Miriam stressed.

"Oh come on I'm sure you're exaggerating a little."

"No, I mean they'll literally eat you alive. They'll suck your blood until you're empty if you make them mad enough."

"Alright, I get it. I'll keep my mouth shut," Sam said a little scared.

This town was a lot different than the town of Grambler. It was a lot cleaner and darker. The walls were all painted different dark colors and the streets had canopies over them that cast the streets in shadow. Also very few people were on the streets. It all had a very eerie feel to it. Finally they came to a stop outside of a building with a sign over the door that said: "Hot Shots; no non-vampires allowed."

"You guys wait out here, I'll be back soon," Miriam said as she walked through the door. Darius and Sam stood there in awkward silence for a moment.

"So Darius…what kind of hobbies do you have?"

"Well I like reading and practicing with my twin swords."

"Really? You have twin swords?"

"Yup. I can't show you them here though. Like I said Vampires don't like it when you threaten them."

"Oh alright…well while we're just standing here, how did you meet Rehab. I meant to ask. It just never came up."

"Well, it was about eight years ago. She was about sixteen at the time. I was feeling really lonely and we had 'relations.' I really wish that we hadn't though. Sometimes I wonder if it was why she decided to become a prostitute."

"What do you mean?"

"Ever since we had our little fling, she always changes her plans for me when I come. It might not have seemed like it, but she's always fancied me. I really feel bad that I took advantage of that."

"Well if she likes you why not date her or something?"

"Sam. She's going to die in about sixty or so years and I'm going to keep on living. It wouldn't be fair to either of us. That's why elves don't usually have love affairs with other races. It's not that we're racist or anything, it's just easier on everyone."

"Oh, I never thought about it that way." Sam pondered what Darius had told him. Then he noticed something in Darius' eyes. He realized that behind all the smiles Darius really was lonely. Sam could understand now why Darius would lead a girl on like he did. If Sam had to be alone for thousands of years, any comfort would be welcome.

"Alright. I should be stocked up for about a month," Miriam said as she walked out of the building. She was carrying about six flasks in her arms. "So did you guys find anything to talk about while I was gone?"

"Not really," Darius said. Sam took that as a hint not to talk to Miriam about it. "We should probably get going."

"Yea, we need to get to that tavern that we stayed last time before it fills up," Miriam said.

"What's so special about that tavern?" Sam asked. They didn't get the chance to answer his question though because of what was waiting for them around the corner.

"Miriam Kaiser, been a long time." A very big, very broad shouldered man stood before them with two equally threatening conies standing behind them. They were all bearing their teeth threateningly. They were vampires.

"What do you want Bezel?"

"I just wanted to talk to you Miriam. Is that a crime now?"

"Look, we're in a bit of a hurry, so just let us through alright."

"I see your still hanging out with that loser friend of yours. How ya doing elf boy? And I see that there's a new member of the group .A human too.  What's your name boy?" Sam could hear footsteps coming down the street behind them. Were they trying to close off their escape route?

"Sam. It's Sam," Sam said with as much confidence as he could muster.

"Sam. Good old Sam. So Miriam have you been messin' around with him too?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Of course you do. With a skirt that short it has to be for somebody's benefit." They all start to chuckle.

"Sam, you need to get a hold of your sword," Darius whispered in Sam's ear. Sam slowly took off his backpack and pulled it in front of him.

"Come on Miriam, you know that we had something. Why won't you admit it?"

"Because I never have nor will I ever have feelings for you Bezel." Sam slowly put his hand in his bag.

"Come on now Baby don't be like that." The other guys were pulling out big mallets behind him. This made Sam search through his bag faster. "You know that you love me." Sam grew anxious now as he searched. "If you won't admit it…" Sam struggled to find it. "…I'll just have to show you." His fingers closed on it just in time. Bezel took hold of Miriam while the cronies behind him sprang forward. Somehow Sam knew what to do. Sam raised the sword above his head and light was thrown all around them. Bouncing off the buildings and becoming even brighter while doing it, the light grew stronger. The vampires began to grow scared. "I-i-i-it can't be. Th-there's just no way. This kid is a wielder?"

"Not so pathetic now is he?" Darius asked cheerfully.

"Let's go boys." They were gone before Sam could put his sword up.

"Well that was exciting," Darius said like they had just watched a bar fight.

"Yea well I don't really want to repeat it, so let's get going," Sam said.
The word that a wielder had emerged spread through the town like wildfire. It was all anyone was talking about the next morning. People were saying that a scrawny, blonde human boy had fought off some thugs with the Sword of Strength. Sam covered up his hair so that they could slip out of town quietly, and the entire time he couldn't help but think that they were all way off base with the whole scrawny thing.
Sam's first time in a Vampire town. How will it turn out?

I like it a lot. But you are missing a lot of commas.
