"Good morning class. I am your new Biology teacher Mr. Admiraal." I couldn't believe it, but at the same time I could believe it. Mr. Admiraal needed to be a member of the school's faculty in order to be a club's faculty adviser. "Your old teacher, Mr. Salsburg, has taken ill and has decided to retire early, so I will be taking over his teaching positions. According to him, you were just about to start a study on the splitting of cells, so I'd like everyone to take out your books and open them to page 174. Read the chapter on the stages of cell division." He had been so clinical during the first meeting of Club DAVID that this friendly side of him seemed foreign. The meeting was a lot of fun after everyone had introduced themselves and talked about their power. We all got to try and show what we could do. Clara and Jesse were the only ones that could produce a solid result though. They seemed to quickly become Mr. Admiraal's favorites, but I didn't care one way or the other. The only reason that I somewhat respected him was because he was a research scientist who had made something of himself. Most of the teachers at this school were only there because they couldn't do anything else with their lives.
"He's so gorgeous," the girl in front of me whispered as she stared at Mr. Admiraal as he wrote things up on the board. I didn't know what she was talking about. He had to be in his late 20's or early 30's by now. It would be so creepy for him to be interested in any of the freshman or sophomore girls in this class. I will never understand the normal teenage girl obsession with older men. I thought to myself.
"Has everyone finished reading?" Mr. Admiraal asked the class after finishing drawing nearly the exact diagrams that were in the book on the board. No one said anything, so he started to tell us about them. He was surprisingly a good teacher. He wrote down everything that we would needed on the overhead. It was easy to listen to him talk about a subject that I absolutely hated with Mr. Salsburg. It surprised me how good he was. I would probably have respected him even if he had just another teacher at this school.
The class went by quickly and I was packing up and walking out the door before I knew it.
"You have anything going on today?" my best friend Sophia asked me.
"I've got a protest down at the mall. There's a makeup store that's starting to sell a new line that tests their products on animals."
"Are the tweeds going with you?" she asked obviously not being serious.
"Yea, they're going to act as the loud guys and the muscle. There should be about 20 other people there too," I said excitedly.
"You know that I would come, but I've got work today."
"I know, I know. I don't hold it against you."
"Isn't the new biology teacher dreamy?" a simple minded girl asked her friend as they walked down the hall.
"I know. He has blue eyes that I could just drown in," her friend replied.
"Yea, too bad he's so clinical," I whispered into Sophia's ear as the girls walked away.
"I know that, but they don't. The first meeting was interesting though. I had no idea that there could be other psychics at this school," Sophia said.
"I know that you mean."I've known that Sophia was psychic since the 4th grade. We've been friends ever since. No one really gets our relationship. We're completely different people, but we still get along really well. Honestly, I think that our friendship started when we found out that there was another person who understood us. Our abilities helped us bond, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Sophia is really cool, whether she wants to admit it or not. "So I'll see you at Joe's Place after the protest?"
"I'll see you there." Sophia said before running off down the hall with her black braid flying behind her.
"Fern! Fern!" Oh great! It's the mind linked twins. It's kind of creepy now knowing that they can talk behind someone's back right in front of them. "You about to get ready for the protest?" One of them asked.
"Yea, I've got to get home and pick up the posters."
"Can we come with," they asked at the same time. I was surprised that they asked. They never wanted to help with getting ready for a protest.
"Uh…Sure I guess. I'll just call my brother and make sure that it's ok." I started to walk off down the hall when I accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh. I'm sorry." I looked up to see Dr. Admiraal looking down at me.
"That's quite all right Miss Seward." He took out a small pad and pencil and started to write something down.
"What are you writing?" I asked feeling a little creeped out.
"I'm just noting that you cannot feel another's presence instinctually," he said straight forward and honest. Yup, he was definitely a little creepy. "I will see you in class tomorrow Miss Seward."
"Yea, see you tomorrow." I was definitely getting some weird vibes from that guy. I couldn't tell, but it felt like deception. "I must just be a little paranoid. I'm sure that he's alright," I said to myself even though the feeling was still poking me at the back of my brain.
Sorry it took me so long to post another chapter. I got busy with other things. Anyway, this chapter is about Fern's first day with Dr. Admiraal as a teacher. What will people think of him?
